Measuring Ability and Tasks
The IWS Functional Capacity Evaluation is a physical test designed to measure an injured worker's abilities and then match those abilities to the specific tasks of a certain job. This is accomplished by having a worker perform various activities that simulate on-the-job work. The test, which combines the highest level of safety with objective findings, is a significant aid in developing an effective return-to-work program for an injured worker.
Our Functional Capacity Evaluation is the cornerstone of the internationally recognized Isernhagen Work Systems program, which has had worldwide success in returning people to work and keeping them safe. Our FCE was developed by Isernhagen & Associates, Inc. a Duluth, Minnesota firm seeking to lower the risk of worker injury and its associated costs. This program allows us to offer the experience of an internationally successful rehabilitation program plus the service of a local institution.
To achieve the most objective findings, we use the Kinesiophysical method of testing. By using a therapist skilled in musculoskeletal function, this test allows us — not the worker — to evaluate precise physical and functional abilities. We can then determine when, and in what capacity, that worker can return to work. Our goal is to get people back to work quickly and safely. The Functional Capacity Evaluation helps us achieve that goal by focusing on ability rather that disability, and by helping injured workers discover what they can safely do — and what they must avoid. This is a positive approach that gets people back to work. |
